Since 1970's, Najmi dan colleagues had participated internal tournaments at national level. During the period, he was given special permission of wearing blackbelt to represent the state of Terengganu in championships. Special permission was given by Master Low Koon Lin (now Grandmaster). His name was once at the top in free-sparring events.
In 1978, taekwon-do was lead by Mr. T.Thomas, one of the founding members of Terengganu Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF).
Appointed examiners for the state were Master Low Koon Lim, Master Sabree Salleh, Master Leong Wai Meng, Master Amir Md. Noor, Master Ng Kam Swee, Master Lim Boon Nam dan Master Ngiaw Wee Sun.
Najmi obtained his 4th Dan in 1995 and conducted gradings since for this region and his international classes of India, Egypt and Jordan. Under Najmi's Taekwon-Do Academy, his student Mr. Shakir initiated taekwon-do training class in Egypt and at Ali AlBayt University of Jordan via Hj.Abd Hafiz Arifin. He conducted free taekwon-do class in southern India as laying foundation and currently being handled by locals.
Taekwon-Do under Mr. Najmi was introduced at several important local institutions e.g. Special Police Force (PPH-Gong Badak) where he trained officers for Karate championships, PERKAYA (renowned local orphanage foundation), National Bank's security and KUSZA (now known as Darul Iman Malaysian University) . KUSZA (Sultan Zainal Abidin Islamic College) had a policy which prohibited martial arts activities within the campus. Mr. Shakir before he further studies to Egypt, was the student here, severally attempted to open a Taekwon-Do class but fruitless due to strict policy. Until 1995 when two students of Mr. Najmi i.e. Hj.Saiful and Ahmad Faiz successfully organised a protem committee combining student representative forces from International Islamic University and KUSZA itself, eventually martial arts associations were encouraged. Two associations i.e. Taekwon-Do and Silat were founded together.
In 1994, during the ITF 9th World Taekwon-Do Championship 1994 at Kuala Terengganu, Gen. Choi Hong Hi used his Kuala Terengganu Taekwon-Do Training Center for Senior Grading Session. Najmi was awarded an O.I.M (Outstanding Instructor Medalist) in personal by Gen.Choi in 1994.
